You can (rent) bicycles and explore the villages. Let us know if they need to be rented and we will arrange for them to be ready.
Museum visit
Well, you cannot escape visiting the museum square with the Stedelijk, Van Gogh, The Rijksmuseum and Moco Museum. But there is much more! We are happy to help you!
Food Tour
We organize food tours. Do you want to come, let us know! Get to know the best culinary hotspots, and above all taste what Amsterdam has to offer!
Boating
There are many options on the water. We have a small boat for rent, with or without skipper. Inquire about the possibilities.
Birdwatching
On your own, or do you go on an adventure with a bird watcher and connoisseur! Learn to recognize the sounds, let the colors surprise you and also be careful not to step on a grass snake!
Special interests?
Are you specifically looking for something, or do you really want to climb the Martini Tower, eat an Oosterschelde lobster, or ride a Friesian horse?
WHO ARE WE?
We are the Hessing family. We have been living with our family since 2005 on this beautifully restored farm in Schellingwoude, Amsterdam Noord. We have four children: Hein (15), Lavinia (14), Guus (12) and Frits (11). We also have two dogs (Messi and Louie), chickens and sheep.
We have always enjoyed living in the historic center of Amsterdam, but greenery and tranquility beckoned. We have sustainably renovated the sheep farm and now fully enjoy rural Amsterdam. We think it would be fantastic if more people can relax here and get to know Amsterdam in the broadest sense.
We are within cycling distance of the center, but just as close to all Waterland villages, such as Marken, Edam, Monnickendam, Volendam, Holysloot, Broek and Waterland and so on! A great pleasure for cyclists and walkers. But the fun is not over for bird watchers either. If you're really lucky, you can even spot a breathtaking kingfisher.
In short, best of all worlds here with us in our HOMESTEAD!
